SCPCSD Application Process

Lette​r of Intent

The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) develops the universal charter school Letter of Intent template which can be found here.  

Letters of Intent must be submitted to the SCPCSD as the charter school sponsor by November 3 of the year preceding the application submission.  This due date adheres to the 90-day time period required between submission of the Letter of Intent and submission of the Application, which is due on February 1 of each application cycle. 

Please complete the Letter of Intent at the link above and submit it electronically to Catherine Watt  at the SCPCSD.   A copy of the Letter of Intent must also be sent to the South Carolina Department of Education in electronic format to charterschools@ed.sc.gov or in hard copy to the address below:

New Charter Application 

The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) develops the universal charter school Application template and guidance, which can be found here.  Applications should be submitted directly to the charter school sponsor (the SCPCSD).  The deadline to submit an Application for a charter school opening for the 2017-18 school year is February 1, 2016. The Application must be submitted in the following formats:

  • 1 hard copy to the SCPCSD:

A copy of the application must also be sent to the South Carolina Department of Education. Applications can be in electronic format and sent to: charterschools@ed.sc.gov or in hard copy to the address below:

District-Specific Application Requirements

In addition to the universal charter Application developed by the SCDE, a sponsor is allowed to require additional information from applicants.  The forms listed and linked below are required by the SCPCSD and must be submitted with the final application (both in hard copy and electronically).

SCPCSD Performance Framework

The SCPCSD Board of Trustees shall rule on the application for a charter school in a public hearing, upon reasonable public notice, within ninety days after receiving the application.  More information on the evaluation process can be found in the District Application Resources referenced above.
